there's a lot to be said for being unemployed again. my weekends are my own. and we decided that there was no real point in looking for a new job until August; we're going away for the long weekend in august (that's around the fifth for you poor deprived americans), so it seems silly to get a job only to demand time off right away. and we're fortunate that we don't *need* the money. the rent'll still get paid, and so will most of the bills, it's just easier when I have a job.
I still have to get my last two checks. Sam says I'll get them before the 13th because the woman who issues them is going on holidays then. fingers crossed!!!
oh, and our new headboard is arriving on thursday! yay!!! we bought it in May, but it was seriously back ordered. we were told june, but obviously, that wasn't right.
and I finally finished Chindi by McDevitt. whew. I took out a whole bunch of books by nebula award winners, looking for new sci-fi authors to read. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really do it for me. It's pace wasn't quite what I've come to expect for an action-ish scifi. I'm going to try Engines of the Gods or Omega, and see how those fly.
While I was wading through chindi, I also read Light Music by Goonan, the Moon and The Sun by Vonda McIntyre & Tithe by Holly Black. They're all pretty good, though I'll be taking on the next Black book first, then maybe another McIntyre.
Presently I'm rereading Magic Steps by Tamora Pierce. I reread the first quartet a week ago, as well as the new empress one (can't remember the title), and so I'm happily reading the second quartet again. ah. T Pierce is *such* a good writer!
